Daria
Daria
Daria has been at our school since 2024. Two years ago, she had to flee headlong
from her hometown of Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine.
And now she is creating a solo performance.
About not standing out and the color black.
About (un)inhabited apartment blocks.
About missing Taja.
About hands that writhe.
About a random yet special memory.
About how Daria’s life changed from that of an ordinary girl in Ukraine to that of an exception in the Netherlands. An optimistic performance about the human side of migration. Told from the perspective of a young girl.
For this solo, Daria was mentored by theater maker Karel Hermans, assistant director Ilja van Alfen, and designer Aart Laferte.
‘Never before have we felt our role in the world around us so strongly. We remain committed to high artistic quality in everything we do. Because quality has the power to speak. But it is necessary to utilize our engagement more than ever. To show and let it be known that we exclude no one. To engage in dialogue through our productions and lessons for young people about the world and their place in it. To bring young people together. To use our productions for an optimistic message for a future where there is room for everyone. And of course, our humor and joy in the work are indispensable to this.’
