Shards of the World

Shards of the World

A theater concert featuring protest songs by young writers

Four young writers set out to find words for what moves them, angers them, and keeps them awake at night. They wrote poignant protest songs about the right to be who you are. About a life that goes off the rails for lack of a home of one’s own. About identity and desire. About racism and its impact. And about everything that chafes in a world full of contradictions.

Mats Voshol set their lyrics to music and formed a four-piece band. Shards of the World, a theater concert that is incredibly vibrant. It is so good that you will instantly fall in love with them.

Young Writers
Young Writers is a talent development program by Explore the North and Meeuw young theater makers. Talented young people from Friesland (aged 14–18) are given the opportunity to develop as writers. They occasionally receive writing assignments, such as for this production, during which they were mentored by songwriters Arnold de Boer and Koen Frijns.
