De Meeuw

Kostja has a dream He wants to become a playwright and turn the theater world upside down. Hij wil net zo beroemd worden als zijn moeder die actrice is. But she is busy with her own life and with her lover, the successful playwright Trigorin. And then there is Nina, Kostja’s girlfriend. When she falls in love with Trigorin, that is the final push.

DE MEEUW by Chekhov we are playing because this year marks our twenty-fifth anniversary and because our name is derived from it. But first and foremost: because it is about theater, about young people and about big dreams.
Director Tatiana Pratley gathered six actors around her who started their theater career at the Jeugd Theater School of Friesland. They have now graduated from various theater schools and work for theater companies throughout the Netherlands. Together they tackle Chekhov’s classic and create their version of one of the most beautiful pieces in theater literature.

Before or after each performance, the actors personally take care of the side programming. They perform with a song program, play records, conduct interviews with special guests or have a discussion with visitors.

This performance is made possible by Gemeente Leeuwarden, Provincie Fryslân, Stichting Woudsend and the Leeuwarder Ondernemers Fonds
